Buhm Hong in Berlin

I braved the snow and bitter cold Friday night and made it out to see Buhm Hong's opening at Aando Fine Art, here in Berlin.

In the front room an impressive chandelier-like mobile hung from the ceiling, filling the space, and mirrored glass figures hung from it, reflecting light as well as casting colored shadows on the walls like a giant, chaotic shadow theater. The glass figures were all very whimsical shapes and creatures, and evoked childhood dreams and memories.

Small, intricate pencil drawings in the second room continued this theme. Also in the second room hung a painstaking black and white painting, consisting of a large black silhouette of an unruly bush within which were thousands of tiny white dots of paint depicting the foliage.

In the back room a video piece rounded out the show with footage of two old, forgotten places (a hole into a cellar and a set of elevated railroad tracks obviously no longer in use), drawing us in, and then slowly cross fading into Hong's black and white constallation-like imagery.
