A black-tie gala celebrating the achievement will be held on April 29, 2009 at the Chicago CulturalCenter.

Richard Hunt (b. 1935) has had a long, prosperous career with deep ties to Chicago.
He began exhibiting work as early as 1955, while still a student at the School of the Art Institute. Since that time, Huntʼs work has been exhibited internationally to great acclaim and has earned him numerous awards, prizes, honorary degrees and fellowships, including the Guggenheim. Most recently, Hunt has been announced as the recipient of the ISC Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was established in 1991 to recognize individual sculptors who have made exemplary contributions to the field of sculpture. Past award recipients are Magdalena Abakanowicz, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Nam June Paik, Mark di Suvero, and Louise Bourgeois among others. Hunt is well known for his public sculptural works, including Freeform on the facade of the State of Illinois Building on LaSalle Street, Flight Forms at Midway Airport on the corner of 59th and Cicero, and We Will outside of the Heritage Building.

We are excited to exhibit not only new sculptural works, but also Huntʼs lithography. Less known than his sculptural works and maquettes, Huntʼs lithography is whimsical, colorful and strong. They exhibit a sense of experimentation wholly different from that of his welded and cast works. But just like the visions that his hands, hammers and torches create, Huntʼs lithography, with a thoughtful and deliberate touch, reveals the inner workings of a contemporary master.

At the David Weinberg Gallery we believe that our passion for art is the critical element to our success.
