Now you have begun!

That's true, the internet is taking over and most magazines are doing major cutbacks.

Great show! I'm glad you called out the collectors. There has been a lot of talk about DIY, but a lot of it ends up being artist circle jerks. What goes on in the West Loop is more like a singles scene for recent grad students. I seem to remember the obit for Muriel Newman state that she loved traveling to New York, then buying art. Could art collecting for our local collectors be not much more than souvenir hunting during trips to exotic places like New York? It sounds more fun than schlepping over to River North for something to go over the couch.

Hey Sharks

Thanks for the shout out. I'll be looking for the Sharkforum Lifestyle section soon. I like the length of the podcast. Some of the other podcasters are too damn long.

It's a chilling vision of things to come.

so...how old are you guys in shark years?

Sounds great guys. Looking forward to hearing more.

We, are immortal.

Its time that there be an alternative to the cloying, increasingly more consensus correct institutional cheer leading we see going on with our friends over at BAS- look for many changes here at sharkforum in the coming months!

I'm as excited as the Shark about the possibilites here. I also want to say my piece, though. I enjoy being a part of Bad at Sports and will continue. While my disagreements with Duncan about the "official" beliefs/history of Chicago art were clearly laid out in his interveiw with me, I also think Duncan in particular has done an increasingly good job at BaS. And he himself is ever more critical. I do think Sharkforum can serve an entirely different purpose, though, and have some "stronger coffee" as they say in Europe, as well as doing things perhaps not appropriate for BaS. Personally, I want both and look forward to participating in both, depending on what the idea behind the podcast is.

I have always preferred "Kool Aid" to coffee.

I did enjoy the podcast though.

duncan.

Thanks for the new podcast! I've been listening to Bad at Sports and only recently followed the trail to your blog. The problem of the Chicago scene is interesting to me as a Denver area artist. The prevailing feeling is that collectors will only buy local once an artist has shown in NY, thus earning credibility. I wonder how much the relative lack of art journalism in my region is to blame. If there were more reviews, more discussion, would that have the effect of legitimizing the scene? (I don't know if that's an issue in Chicago). Have you seen an impact from your and BAS's respective vehicles in simply bringing attention to Chicago artists?

Sarah -you just inadvertently pointed out the problem: where with Denver there may be some excuse for collectors to have a 'us out here in the sticks' -'they in the big city mentality', here in one of the largest cities in the states, its just plays as chickenshit and, obnoxious -and yes we no doubt share many of the same problems/mentality Denver has...only we have no excuse -and whats worse than the fat cats who so look down their noses at the scene here, is the artists who are still willing to kiss their behinds- hoping for a pat on the head.
