Dear SHARKFORUM Members:

The Shedd Aquarium invites you to witness a true feeding frenzy. Only in this case, it’s not the chummed waters that have the locals so excited. Rather, it’s hundreds of works of art, donated by the area’s finest artists and galleries for our first annual “Art Sharks” fundraising event, to be held on Friday, February 8, 2008. The Shedd invites all SHARKFORUM members to participate in Art Sharks at by donating an original piece of art work.

With the Shedd’s dazzling Caribbean Reef serving as a backdrop, all donated pieces will be displayed for the eventual gobbling up by approximately 500 philanthropic and art-loving museum supporters. For the Shedd, your art donation provides valuable resources to meet the ongoing needs of maintaining one of the world’s premiere aquariums. For you, it’s a great way to showcase your talents, attract new clients - and make sure the sharks at Shedd Aquarium continue to get their Omega 3’s.

Better still, all works are featured as part of the event’s official printed program and website catalog, complete with photos, artist information, and reciprocal website link. Each contributing artist will be invited to the cocktail portion of the event to discuss their work with attendees of the event.

I hope you find both the Aquarium and this opportunity to promote your art as something worthwhile and compelling. If you are interested in contributing one of your artworks, please email me at kclarke@sharkforum.org and I will forward you a contribution form, which you will need to complete and return to me by the first week in December. After that, simply select the piece you would like to contribute and arrange to have it delivered between now and the beginning of January 2008.

Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) are common in the coral reefs and lagoons of the Indo-Pacific. Swift and sleek, their fins poke above the surface in an archetypically fearsome way. Even though they prefer shallow inshore waters, blacktips startle easily and tend to stay clear of humans.
