The Devourer

Spider3.jpg

Thermal updraft sucking things that soar
into the frozen vortex of thunderstorms.
faux angel, Mary Poppins Harpy.

You flash a peek of panties
at the brain-damaged men
while you mix their poison
for what your father, brother, husband
other woman’s husband did.

Spider2.jpg

Spirit cannibal, zombie soul,
empty vacuum with a faint scent
others mistake for substance.
I know the truth about you.

On her deathbed, wooing with double-talk
you assess her possessions
because you have a family to feed,
and she is old and will die anyway.

Spider1.jpg

Hair trigger of destruction, imp of pain,
streetlights flicker off
because of your ionosphere.
Friend of those who tattoo
on their torsos pathways to a void.

In the depths of the cold and dark
there is a creature with a brilliant light,
all who see the light are drawn in,
and she devours them.

The orb-weaver spiders (family Araneidae) are the builders of spiral wheel-shaped webs often found in gardens, fields and forests.

It should be noted that the devourer's most formidable foe is the shark.
